Recent reports suggest that Huawei does not plan to upgrade its older MateBook laptops to HarmonyOS, the company’s in-house operating system. Instead, the tech giant appears to be focusing on integrating HarmonyOS into its newer PC models, leaving existing devices to continue running on Windows or Linux-based systems.
Huawei has been steadily expanding HarmonyOS across its product lineup, including smartphones, tablets, and IoT devices. However, a PC version of the OS is still in development, with expectations that it will debut on upcoming MateBook releases rather than being retroactively applied to older hardware.
Industry analysts speculate that this decision may stem from hardware compatibility challenges or strategic priorities, as Huawei aims to refine HarmonyOS for PCs before wider deployment. Users of current MateBook models will likely remain on their existing operating systems unless they upgrade to newer devices designed explicitly for HarmonyOS.
As Huawei continues to develop its ecosystem, the company may reveal more details about its PC software strategy in the coming months.
