After 15 years, WhatsApp has finally made its long-awaited debut on the iPad, much to the delight of users who have been requesting this feature for years. The messaging app, owned by Meta, is now available for download directly from the App Store, offering iPad users a seamless way to stay connected without relying on their smartphones.
Previously, iPad users could only access the app through the web browser version or by using workarounds such as mirroring their iPhone screens. The new native app is designed specifically for the iPad’s larger display, providing an optimised experience with improved interface scaling and multitasking capabilities.
The standalone app supports all core WhatsApp features, including text messaging, voice and video calls, and file sharing. It also synchronises with the user’s existing account, ensuring chat history and contacts are readily available. To set it up, users simply need to scan a QR code using their iPhone, linking the iPad to their account.

This move aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of expanding its accessibility across multiple devices. Last year, the company introduced companion mode, allowing users to link up to four non-phone devices to their account. The iPad app further enhances this flexibility, catering to the growing demand for cross-platform functionality.
With this official release, Meta finally joins other popular messaging apps like Telegram and Signal, which have long offered dedicated iPad versions. The update is now available globally, and users can download it from the App Store.
