It was tough at first but eventually, the company gained traction and grew. In 1999, Zip2 was snatched by Compaq for $307 million and Musk made off with $27 million.
Since Musk had his purpose straight, he didn’t retire into the sunset leisure after winning it big. He continued to make a name in the internet industry and founded an online bank called X.com. It was a bold plan because a small startup trying to compete with big banks seemed out of touch.
Later, his company merged with Peter Thiel’s Confinity to become what we know today as PayPal. In 2002, PayPal was sold for $1.5 billion and Musk walked off with $180 million.

After completing his Zip2 and PayPal chapter, the internet in his list is checked. Then, he started a new company called SpaceX. The mission is to make humans a multi-planetary species by colonizing Mars. Next, in 2004, he founded Tesla, an electric car company, to revolutionise the worldwide car industry to bring humanity toward a sustainable energy future.
