Kuala Lumpur, 26 September 2025 — Samsung Malaysia Electronics has been honoured with the ESGBusiness Award 2025, a significant accolade underscoring the company’s strategic commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) excellence through technological innovation. The recognition confirms Samsung’s position not merely as a tech leader but as a driving force for sustainable business practices within the region.
The award recognises Samsung’s comprehensive ESG roadmap, which integrates environmental stewardship across its operations and customer touchpoints. This success is founded on tangible, data-driven initiatives that extend the product lifecycle, reduce waste, and promote a digital-first approach to consumption.
The Digital Shift: A Green Movement by Samsung Malaysia
At the core of Samsung’s operational commitment is its aggressive push towards digitalisation to minimise its environmental footprint. Between 2022 and 2024, the “Go Green” movement successfully transitioned approximately 359,907 customer interactions—including services like the e-queue ticketing system—to paperless alternatives. This substantial digital migration resulted in the conservation of the equivalent of 35 trees, proving that operational efficiency and ecological responsibility are mutually reinforcing.
Extending Product Value by Samsung Malaysia and Reducing E-Waste
Perhaps the most impactful element of Samsung’s strategy is its focus on product longevity through the Eco Repair Program. Recognising the escalating global challenge of e-waste, this initiative encourages customers to prioritise repair over replacement, offering a more sustainable and affordable choice.
The scale of this effort is notable: over the two-year period from 2022 to 2024, the program facilitated the repair of approximately 41,419 mobile devices and 18,417 televisions. This collective action is estimated to have contributed to the preservation of 131,316 trees, highlighting the powerful environmental benefit derived from circular economy practices.
Responsible End-of-Life Management
Completing the sustainability loop, Samsung has addressed responsible end-of-life management through the introduction of Eco Recycle Boxes across its nationwide service centre network. These accessible collection points provide a convenient, safe channel for customers to dispose of old devices and accessories, ensuring they bypass landfills. By the end of 2024, the program had successfully collected a total of 138.68 kilograms of e-waste, demonstrating accountability for the entire product lifecycle.
A Collective Future
The ESGBusiness Award 2025 is a powerful endorsement of Samsung Malaysia’s integrated philosophy: that innovation and sustainability must progress hand-in-hand. The company’s leadership team views the award not just as corporate recognition but as a shared triumph, acknowledging the vital role played by customers in participating in these eco-conscious programs. Moving forward, Samsung reaffirms its commitment to setting the benchmark for positive change and leading by example in Malaysia’s rapidly evolving sustainability landscape.
Verdict
Samsung Malaysia’s recent achievements in sustainable innovation reflect a significant commitment to environmental responsibility and consumer engagement. As consumers, we can look forward to continued advancements in eco-friendly programs, including more accessible disposal options for electronic waste and innovative product designs that prioritise sustainability. This proactive approach not only enhances our purchasing decisions but also empowers us to actively contribute to a more sustainable future. Samsung’s leadership in this realm sets a promising precedent for industry-wide practices.
