Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters in about a month, and anticipation is high. But what exactly should fans expect from this long-awaited reboot? Based on everything we’ve seen so far, here’s a breakdown of what you need to know before the Four make their MCU debut.

This Is Not an Origin Story

Still, I think there will be a quick montage of their origin

This won’t be the classic story of four astronauts getting superpowers from cosmic radiation. From the trailers, it’s clear the Fantastic Four are already famous superheroes with their status quo well established.

It Takes Place in a Different Universe

This story takes place in a different universe from the Sacred Timeline

The trailer shows a universe very different from the main MCU timeline—the Sacred Universe. This timeline looks highly advanced, but their technology seems retro. Their retrofuturistic style and the fact they’ve been superheroes for a long time suggest they’re not part of the same universe as The Avengers. It even seems likely the Fantastic Four are the only superheroes in their universe.

But They Will Come to the Sacred Timeline

Excelsior, as seen in Thunderbolts*

We’ve seen in the Thunderbolts post-credit scene that the Fantastic Four will arrive in the Sacred Timeline on their ship, the Excelsior. But why?

Galactus Will Be the Big Bad

The devourer of worlds

Galactus is the devourer of worlds. Some fans think he’s a villain, but really, he’s a cosmic entity that needs to feed on planets to survive. Higher beings don’t think about small lives like humans think about ants when building towers.

Many fans believe the Fantastic Four will fail to stop Galactus, and he’ll destroy their Earth, forcing them to find refuge in the Sacred Timeline. I don’t think so. I think they will defeat Galactus and get a happy ending. There’s another reason why they come to the Sacred Timeline.

Their Baby Is Basically a God

Why do you think the movie is called First Steps?

Enter Franklin Richards, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.

Why do you think the movie is called First Steps? Not because it’s the Fantastic Four’s first adventure, but because their baby is taking his first steps. That shows how important he is in the multiverse saga.

In the comics, Franklin is one of the most powerful beings ever, with abilities like omnipotence and reality-warping.

Franklin is so powerful he can recreate the entire multiverse

We already know Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will adapt the 2015 Secret Wars comics. If Marvel stays faithful, after Doctor Doom is defeated, Franklin Richards will recreate the multiverse, one universe at a time. He has the power of a god.

That’s why the Fantastic Four come to the Sacred Timeline. They want to help The Avengers rebuild the universe after Doctor Doom’s plan.

Conclusion

I’m digging their astronaut-like costumes

The Fantastic Four: First Steps looks like it will be more than just a reboot—it’s a potential cornerstone for the future of the MCU. With a rich new universe, the arrival of Galactus, and the introduction of Franklin Richards, Marvel might be setting the stage for something bigger than we’ve ever seen.

This isn’t just the beginning of the Fantastic Four. It could be the first step toward reshaping the multiverse.

I’ve got a feeling that this movie will be… fantastic.

Say that again?
