WhatsApp has been hinting at the arrival of a native iPad app for years, and a new teaser suggests its release could finally be imminent.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp shared a cryptic image of the app’s green background with the caption, “iPad users, stay tuned⦔ alongside an eyes emoji. The post has fuelled speculation that the long-awaited iPad version of the messaging service may soon be available.
While WhatsApp has offered a web-based version accessible via Safari, iPad users have been requesting a standalone app optimised for the tablet’s larger display for years. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed in 2022 that a native iPad app was in development, but no further updates were provided until now.
The lack of a dedicated iPad app has been a notable omission, especially as rival messaging platforms like Telegram and Signal already offer tablet-optimised experiences. Currently, iPhone users can run WhatsApp on their iPad, but only in a scaled-up iPhone format, which is far from ideal.

If Meta follows through with an official iPad app, it would likely support seamless syncing across devices, allowing users to switch between their iPhone, iPad, and desktop without interruption.
While no launch date has been confirmed, the latest tease suggests an announcement could be imminent. For now, iPad users will have to wait and see if Meta finally delivers the native experience theyβve been waiting for.
Regardless, it might be the greatest news we could hear from Meta in a while. As Meta suggests, all we have to do is “stay tuned”.
