Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, with a new mission to stop a new diabolical plan from terrorizing global peace. Only this time, the main villain is an artificial intelligence known as the Entity which, as we speak, might have already figured it all out 3 steps ahead of you. As quoted by fan favorite Benji in describing the Entity as; “A mind-reading, shapeshifting incarnation of chaos”.
Being the longest entry in the franchise to date, coming in at 2 hours and 43 minutes, we see Hunt running (literally and figuratively) against time to find the key which holds the source code that could stop the Entity from causing an all-out nuclear warfare. Despite being another summer action blockbuster, it is still undeniable that the action scenes and stunts are some of the best in the franchise to date.
Cruise is still as entertaining as ever, and the rest of the cast continues to exhibit great onscreen chemistry. One could never forget the quirky Benji, played by Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames as Luther. Pom Klementieff (which is well-known for being Mantis in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy) managed to pull off as a badass martial-arts expert in bringing down Hunt and his crew while being hired by the evil nemesis Gabriel, played by Esai Morales.
Even at 61 years old, Tom Cruise shows no signs of slowing down as Part Two of this movie is currently hard at work on finishing. One could arguably assume that a giant two-part adventure would be the best way to give the franchise a proper sendoff, but that may not be the case.
“Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find out that you don’t need to stay through the credit.”
Since the rise of MCU’s movie, Iron Man has started making post-credit scenes popular to the extent where they have become more commonplace in big blockbuster movies, especially in sequels. However, director Chrisopher McQuarrie continues to embrace the lack of an end-credit scene. As this is a two-part adventure, there is no end-credit sequence, as it is clear as day that Hunt’s mission will continue in Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.
With that in mind, it makes sense to not include any post-credit scenes as this film is already an incredibly long movie reaching nearly 3-hours. The director rewards the viewer with fulfilling spy-thriller elements and action-packed scenes but is still excited and intrigued for the next instalment, so the audience is free to leave by the start of the ending credits.
Suffice to say that this movie was worth watching on the big screen and I believe it deserves a 9 out 10 rating for being one of the most memorable movies this franchise has ever showcased. I bet it looks even better on an IMAX screen.
