Loki Season 2 is officially over and we’re here to review it! Spoiler alert, it’s one of Marvel’s finest works.
Amazing Shots
There is no doubt that Loki Season 2 has impressive special effects. Every frame of this show could end up being your laptop’s wallpaper.
The TVA office looks retro and futuristic at the same time. The way the timelines glow and grow through the Temporal Loom is just as beautiful the way it dies into rotting branches. The shots where the people and the universes disintegrate into thin threads are absolutely magnificent. Even the way Mobius rides his jet ski is amazingly shot.
In short, they nailed the special effects and cinematography this season.
Background Music
Background music hasn’t been the strength of this show but there is one scene where the universes are being disintegrated while Sylvie is listening to Oh! Sweet Nuthin’ by The Velvet Underground.
The melancholic music suits the scene perfectly and it gets better when the song slowly disoriented into a disturbing sound as the universe is completely destroyed.
Supporting Characters
The supporting characters are awesome. Mobius is really entertaining. His differences from Loki makes him the perfect partner. Ouroboros is also incredible. His quirky behavior and technological expertise carry the show forward.
The antagonists of the show are incredible as well. The scene where Renslayer and Miss Minute crushes TVA agents in a shrinking cube is disturbing. Renslayer shows no remorse while Miss Minute smiles while we can hear them screaming and being crushed to death.
He Who Remains returns and he still nails his part. His ‘evil plan’ is brilliant. It’s incredible that the Temporal Loom is revealed to actually destroy other timelines. It’s a failsafe so that even if the TVA refuses to prune branched timelines or even if He Who Remains is dead, Sacred Time still persists just as he planned.
Beautiful Ending
We talked about Loki’s development as a character before, but it is absolutely worthy to restate the irony of his narratives.
Loki spent most of his life desiring a throne but never had it. In the end of his story, he doesn’t want the throne, but he has it.
Loki wants to spend time with his friends at TVA but he sacrifices himself – sitting on the throne of the Citadel at the End of Time, holding the branches of the multiverse, and keeping them alive… forever and alone.
This ending is absolutely beautiful and highlights Loki’s growth as a character. It is one of Marvel’s stories’ perfect endings. It’s on the same level as Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Avengers: Endgame.
Conclusion
The story of Loki is incredible. This is the journey of how Loki becomes the God of Stories by protecting the stories from all across the multiverse in his hands. It’s really rare for Marvel to serve a story this big and impactful to the continuity of the MCU’s narrative. This really shows how much Marvel cares for the character. We usually see this kind of story in a crossover movie, such as the Avengers series. Therefore, it’s been a privilege to watch this series.
As for the rating, we give this series a 9.5 out of 10.
