Disney Won’t Adapt This Daredevil Story (But They Should)

Daredevil: Born Again is doing well on Disney+, and with Kingpin as the mayor of New York, things are bound to get intense. Daredevil is on the verge of crossing the line, almost committing murder. His best friend, Foggy Nelson, is dead. Sound familiar? It should—it’s nearly identical to the Daredevil run by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto (2019-2022).

That storyline was insane. It’s so insane that I doubt Disney will ever adapt it.

The Punisher taunted The Devil

Dear Disney, if you’re reading this, please prove me wrong. Adapt it, and my life is yours.

But for those who haven’t read it, here’s a breakdown of what went down in the comics:

Punisher and Spider-Man’s Reaction

It all started when Matt Murdock accidentally killed someone. Tragic, right? But what makes it even more compelling is how his fellow vigilantes reacted.

The Punisher saw this as Daredevil finally embracing his methods and shamelessly invited him to join his crusade. Meanwhile, Spider-Man had the opposite reaction—he took Daredevil’s mask, forcing him to retire. And the worst part? Matt agreed. He believed he was no longer worthy of being Daredevil.

Prison Arc

The prison arc is crazy

Wracked with guilt, Matt turned himself in. Being a lawyer, he found a loophole—he convinced the court to try him as Daredevil to keep his real identity a secret.

Matt turned himself in as Daredevil

So, Daredevil went to prison as Daredevil. Mask on, jumpsuit and all.

Prison riot

And you already know what happened next: prison riots. He had put half of those inmates behind bars, so of course they were out for blood.

Oh did I mention Daredevil had his own gang in the prison?

Things got so bad that John Walker—yes, U.S. Agent—was sent in to stop him. But in true Daredevil fashion, Matt took on everyone and walked away the victor.

Even in prison, he still aura-farming

Elektra’s Subplot

Elektra is alive in the comics

It’s comic books. Death is just a minor inconvenience. Elektra returned, but instead of her usual assassin gig, she took up his mantle—becoming the next Daredevil. And not just any Daredevil, but one who followed Matt’s moral code, refusing to kill.

The New Yorkers appreciate Daredevil’s sacrifice and accountability

The most beautiful part? The people of New York believed in Matt’s innocence. They wore his mask in the streets to honor his sacrifice. That’s the kind of storytelling that sticks with you.

Punisher vs. Daredevil

Read the dialogue. That’s peak writing.

At one point, Frank Castle—yes, The Punisher—took control of The Hand and waged war against Daredevil. Just look at the comic panels. Imagine this showdown playing out in live action. It would be peak television.

Did I mention Frank Castle rides a freaking dragon to fight Daredevil? Well, now you know.

Daredevil Goes to Hell to Save Foggy

Daredevil in hell

And then things got really crazy.

Daredevil beat a literal devil in hell, bro…

Matt died and descended into hell. Instead of suffering eternal torment, he suited up in a glorious white Daredevil costume, defeated an actual demon, and saved Foggy, bringing him back to life.

But the story didn’t end there.

Matt’s Final Fate—The Priest

A very sad ending

After his resurrection, Matt Murdock had no memory of ever being Daredevil. The years of pain, guilt, and sacrifice? Gone.

With a clean slate, he became a priest, dedicating himself to faith and peace.

Elektra, seeing him finally free and happy, made the ultimate choice—she didn’t tell him the truth. Instead, she continued as Daredevil, carrying on his legacy in silence.

A perfect, bittersweet ending.

Elektra decided to not let Matt suffer anymore

Conclusion: Yeah, It Won’t Happen

Let’s be real—Disney+ is going for a grounded approach with Daredevil: Born Again. Just look at the suit. No bright red, no double-D logo. They’re keeping things realistic.

But if they ever decide to adapt this insane storyline for season 3 or season 4, then once again—my life is yours, Disney.
